First held in 1978, Adams Morgan Day is now a nationally recognized event that celebrates the cultural diversity and creativity that makes DC’s Adams Morgan neighborhood so popular. The event showcases neighborhood retail, art, entertainment, and dining offerings. Local Soul, Funk and R&B bands have performed at the event since its inception.

Ambassadors Orchestra

Ambassadors Orchestra

During the 1960s, there were few DC bands as powerful and as recognizable as the Ambassadors Orchestra (not to be confused with the the recording group “The Ambassadors”). The group was huge (only a small portion are pictured above) and overflowing with talent. Upon disbanding, most members found themselves in a position to start or join many a DC area soul group. It wouldn’t be at all unreasonable to refer to the Ambassadors Orchestra as the prime developer of DC soul musicians.
